US critic inscribes Iranian documentary on Ten-Best List

American film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum has inscribed the Iranian documentary ‘Women According to Men’ on his Ten-Best list of 2020.

‘Women According to Men’ by Saeed Nouri was named among the 10 best films of 2020 in a list compiled by Rosenbaum which he submitted to the Sight and Sound website.

The documentary portrays the place of Iranian women from 1932 to 1979 (the year of Islamic Revolution in Iran), using more than 120 clips from archival films directed by male filmmakers.

‘Women According to Men’ received an international premiere at the 2020 edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Rosenbaum’s list also includes ‘Cenote’ by Kaori Oda from Japan, the American film ‘First Cow’ by Kelly Reichardt, ‘Schoolgirls’ from Spain, and ‘Vitalina Varela’ by Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa.
